World of Spectrum

Searchable threads in one long post:

David Levy asleep at the wheel

Director David Levy was supposed to be in charge of obtaining permissions for games to go on the Vega+, but Levy repeatedly failed to do his job as he worked on his other pet projects such as sex robot conferences and amateur chess competitions.

When well-respected members of the community did offer to help or grant permission for games to be used, Levy ignored the requests and delivered the 80 or so Vega+ prototypes without these games on. Instead David Levy and Suzanne Martin bundled a meagre 18 games that were almost exclusively written by Jonathan Cauldwell, with a large number of Egghead titles (Dizzy knock-offs).

In addition to ignoring permissions for the games, Suzanne Martin also passed a message to David accusing Elite Systems boss Steve Wilcox of threatening Lee Fogarty. We cannot tell for sure, but on the World of Spectrum homepage Lee Fogarty has the following message:

Lying Lee Fogarty

Recreated Spectrum App: We are aware that the Recreated Spectrum keyboard no longer has the app supported by Elite. We have a copy here for download for the android version.

Hi Suzanne,

You are welcome!

I assume your "thank you" refers to game "SAM MALLARD", correct? Also can you please confirm if you finally received "PIXEL QUEST 2000"?

I'm contacting many other authors and I should have more games in the next few days. Regarding this subject, did you receive my previous emails? This is what I wrote:

I'm sure I can help obtain several permissions for fairly good Spectrum games for you. I have good credibility among other developers and I'm not making any profit here (or any other personal interest) so most people should consider my contact with different eyes. How many titles do you really need for VEGA+? I'm concerned about asking too many authors for permissions, then finding out there's no room for all of them... So I really need at least a rough number.

I could do a much better work if you could provide a full list of your already approved and denied games, also developers you have already tried to contact and their responses. I assume you keep a complete spreadsheet or something similar? I understand this is very sensitive information so you should be reluctant to share it with me, but you can trust me to keep this information strictly confidential. Many people should be able to vouch for my credibility, ask Lee Fogarty for instance.

Besides my current effort to obtain more game permissions, I have a suggestion for you. I strongly suggest you contact Steve Wilcox at Elite Systems to ask if he would agree to license his classic Spectrum games for VEGA+. Apparently he still owns many great famous games that your target audience will easily recognize. It seems he's not producing the Elite Bluetooth Keyboard anymore so he won't see Retro Computers as competition, and he's currently not selling any of these games thus licensing them for VEGA+ would be a chance for him to make some profit without any effort and with nothing to lose. However you better don't mention my name when you contact him, since I have publicly criticized his project so I rather not get involved in any conversations you may have with him... I hope you understand.

Confirmation of the shilling that went on from certain individuals during this absolute scandal. What a disgrace!

Well it seems justice has prevailed for once and no surprises there to be honest what a ridiculous bit of behaviour !
