Searchable threads in one long post:

Janko Mrsic-Flogel

Rumours abound that Janko Mrsic-Flogel is using one Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign after another in a domino type of scheme whereby each campaign pays for the next one and so on down the chain. Like any pyramid scheme, this only works until the chain is broken and the whole thing crashes down.

Janko Mrsic-Flogel, the castle owning, fun loving, VAT avoiding businessman who was recently found to have been in from the start on the plot to steal backers ZX Vega+ money, has a very colourful history in business. Multiple companies Janko has run have had to call in the liquidators and/or receivers, according to the companies house official records (check out the last part of this list) and he clearly has a long history of folding companies without paying the various creditors, from individual investors, to banks, Janko doesn't care who he takes money from - it's all fair game to him. With the ultimatum irony he himself (working with Levy and Martin) conspired to wind up Retro Computers Limited to hide their embezzlement of the backers funds.

Janko also has a pretty poor record on crowd-funding. Once he got on what he clearly perceived as David Levy and Suzanne Martin's Indiegogo gravy train, he thought he would have a go himself.

Vega+ fiasco

Janko and his companies had heading for £100,000 of backer money to create what they confirmed to backers was all new and much improved firmware for the Vega+ than Chris Smith had created for the original Vega. What Janko actually did was a very poor rip of the public domain Spectrum emulator FUSE and put it in less than 100 units which a handful of backers received and it was universally panned as complete rubbish.

Many thousands of pounds of ZX Vega+ backer money was paid to Therefore Design Ltd – who strangely are confirmed to have designed the Gemini device, but no proof has been offered to explain what part they played in alternating Rick Dickinson's completed designs for the ZX Vega Plus for which they were allegedly paid over £19,000 to do, or if they were responsible for the final ZX Vega Plus they should hang their heads in shame if reviews are anything to go by or shall we all presume in fact the Vega money was actually to design the Gemini for Janko?

Gemini PDA

For a change, the Gemini PDA project has actually been delivered but when it is considered that Janko has had close to £2,000,000 given to him for this project alone yet had to delver only just over 7000 units of the Gemini to backers, yet if the comments section of backers is to be believed many are totally underwhelmed at the externally poor quality of the device which apparently has many broken hinges, broken screens, and other issues with backer comments such as -

IS GEMINI’S PAST THE COSMO’S FUTURE? This Cosmo and Gemini backer is deeply annoyed with Planet’s over-promising and under-delivering of Gemini’s updates. Frankly, I fear that fact bodes badly for the Cosmo’s future.

Another promised Gemini firmware update deadline / by this time or that is once more about to come & go; just like the updates dangled before us to happen in the 4th qtr of 2018, in late Jan., Feb. & again “within 2 seeks” of / on Mar. 18th, Let’s not forget about the promised (end of 2018) Sailfish release. Not a peep about that happening any time soon since back then. Planet continues disappointing this gem backer with that & their not replying to my, and others, email on this matter.

OS update was promised for the end of 2018, I haven’t been able to install the Gemini keypad driver since last summer (after providing logs and 20+ e-mails I gave up on the support) . I think the Gemini is a great idea but Planet is simply not up to managing the software side.” they replied - Charile, we want to make the Android 8.1 release absolutely perfect for the Gemini. - but the back said “I would like to believe you but my experience since release suggests otherwise: I waited over six months for replacement key caps. Also I note you avoided the issue with the keypad driver…

here are some random examples of a search done right now: “The quality is simply too bad and the software status is appalling”, “After week of gently use I found a crack in display frame. Now I found two more cracks.”, “The plastic seems is very weak.”, “My Gemini has cracked…” ; “In my Gemini some key aren’t working”, “Several keys do not go up in the pressed state”…

Do not forget Janko paid Chris Merriman to lie and shill for the Gemini campaign as well as the ZX Vega+ campaign.

Cosmo Communicator

The Cosmo Communicator campaign alone has given income to Janko and his companies of currently around £1,200,000 – and yet after more than six months since campaign launch, it is still at the prototype stage, despite the legacy that should have rolled over from the Gemini campaign. Only time will tell if this product ever gets delivered.

Backer comments include the following:

BBC

I didn’t see my previous post was deleted. Planet Computers and Dynamical don’t share only the same director! The designer (Sebastian Ng Lei) too. And since they are a small team, probably all of them! Like I said, the PAYMO number of backers in not the issue here. The real problem is the time and resources they have spent on that project. Just, check out the PAYMO video to see how far they went into the development and marketing of that device.“ “ But what was wrong, is that they did all of this before delivering the Android 8.1 Oreo to the Gemini Backers... not to mention finishing the Cosmo!!!

— Indiegogo backer
BBC

I think I was pretty clear! Planet Computers shouldn’t be working on so many projects at the same time! Did anyone see the promotional video of the PAYMO?! Why spending precious time and resources in such a useless device? PAYMO: That time spent on developing the PAYMO would have been a lot more useful if it was spent in delivering the Android 8.1 Oreo for the Gemini, communicating with backers and consider the possibility of launching perks for the Cosmo in order to improve the device.

— Indiegogo backer
BBC

The reality is that the Gemini ended up being a device with several defects and an overall lack of quality! And almost all of its software is quite underdeveloped. After delivering the Gemini, Planet Computers rushed to develop some apps instead of fulfilling their remaining promises of delivering Android 8.1 Oreo and a usable Linux distro. Backers weren't happy either when, after the apps, Planet Computer rushed to launch the Cosmo without fulfilling those promises regarding the Gemini. And after that, Planet Computers rushed to launch the PAYMO Indiegogo project, through DYNAMICAL, and then their proudly Car Mount Kit, frustrating even more the backers because of Planet Computers lack of transparency, consistency and focus. At least they could try to communicate better with backers and explain their decisions, because they affect them as much as they affect us.

— Indiegogo backer
BBC

That I cannot accept my friend! It is true that I’m expressing my opinion, but those are also undeniable facts shared by the majority of Gemini backers. Gemini has a mediocre hardware, cheap materials, underdeveloped software, many flaws and very limited support. That’s the true! The only people who don’t believe in this are Planet Computers co-workers, friends and a half dozen blind fanboys!

— Indiegogo backer
BBC

Yes, $1.6m from people who helped Planet Computers and what we get is a contemptuous treatment. Why aren’t we worthy enough to get some answers? Why this total lack of empathy and respect for the backers who believed in you? Planet Computers, please engage with backers in a serious and transparent crowdfunding campaign.

The Paymo Disaster

The Paymo was a spectacular failure which raised less than £10,000 (only 6% of the total amount asked for) and never got off the ground. Will the failure of this latest project mean the Cosmo Communicator never becomes a reality? If the rumours are true, Janko Mrsic-Flogel is using project A’s income to pay for project B in the same way David Levy robbed Peter to pay Paul for his projects. Tick tock!
